There are certain induction techniques which are related to alteration at attention like eye fixation, distraction similarly here eye fatigue is produced so that an individual is able to close their eyes at the end inorder to have vivid imagination. This technique is important especially when you want to induce deep state of altered attention. During uptime induction an individual can pay attention to external stimuli objects, their texture etc and in downtime the attention is reflected towards internal sensations, feelings etc.
Gestalt therapist have emphasized the importance of this technique that we may feel tense however environment around us is beautiful. So in these kind of situations it is important to move towards uptime , and utalize your senses to perceive external stimuli.
Similarly when you are walking in a tense environment , you may try to breath deeply and shift your focus towards downtime.
I will call it as somehow similar to alteration of locus of control. When sometimes you are dependent more on external stimuli (external LOC)and sometimes internal stimuli (internal LOC).
In prolog uptime state it demands more mental energy inorder to manipulate the external stimuli so eye fatigue is a key component here which leads you to relax deeply.
Prolong uptime state maybe associated with conscious mind whereas here eye fatigue will somwhow open the door for preconsious thus offering higher suggestibility.
but there is also antethesis as NLP practitioners have described the state of uptime trance where they keep they shift their attention totally towards uptime in order to convey or receive maximum information.
    For example:
Therapist AB is treating a patient T having conversion disorder specifier slurred speech so he will first make her focus at certain part in the room , look at the colour, size , shape and texture. and then shifting their focus internally towards the breathing sound, flow, sensations and heartbeat. He will continue to alternate the uptime and downtime focus , and when T’s eyes will slow down , will feel tired, she will be suggested to close your and with another thereupatic technique suggestions will be given inorder to treat the symtom.
