Hey guys I found this vedio really intresting but i have a question the way she is repeating and asking the woman to put in efforts to memorise the old behaviour wouldn’t that just make her memory of that behaviour stronger according to the concept of rehearsal and retrieval in memory formation.Actually, my theory would be that if old behavior is remembered and rehearsed then it only strengthens the memory of such due to principles like rehearsal and retrieval. The other steps focus on the old behavior but that is not effective it needs to be shifted this is what Swish Technique designed for. This technique replaces it with a new mental image which reinforces positive rather than old behavior. So basically, you focus on this new image and link it to positive outcomes meaning that the old behavior has no effect anymore and will be replaced by a more favorable behavior.
This is really interesting. It made me think how this technique differs in NLP and Hypnosis. The old image is being recalled again and again and being replaced by the desired one. The woman was putting in much effort as it was visible on her forehead.
However, in hypnosis, the unwanted image is diminished once at a time and then the whole process needs to be repeated.I would second Arooj’s response.
When an undesired situation is recalled again and again, it gets reinforced and stronger. However, in the SWISH technique, the focus is quickly and rapidly shifted from the negative, unwanted situation or memory towards the positive desired situation or memory, which reduces the overall impact of the negative situation or memory over a period of time.
